[Via Satellite 03-24-2016] Globecomm has received its first streaming Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services contract from a U.S. government organization that has deployed personnel in a large, multi-unit dwelling overseas. The company will combine its global terrestrial and satellite-based network to provide an end-to-end, fully managed solution that includes video services with fully-licensed television content, DVR, digital signage capabilities and distribution to more than 2,000 viewing points at a U.S. government facility.
The awarded contract for the initial Globecomm Programmed Video Solutions/TV (GPVS-TV) deployment includes a 70-channel IPTV head-end system, Set-Top Boxes (STBs), 40 locally acquired channels, 20 premium content channels, on-site training and support, and more. The GPVS-TV technology solution is built on a multicast, IP-based backbone with dedicated secure private distribution to each end-users from a centralized hub or head-end system. Fiber bandwidth and satellite connectivity will be supplied as part of the contract. Services are scheduled for activation in the second quarter of calendar year 2016. The agreement is comprised of a base year contract with four option years.
