[Via Satellite 06-16-2014] Broadcom assisted in a live Ultra-High Definition (Ultra-HD) satellite broadcast of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, in collaboration with Globosat and Elemental Technologies, to select subscribers and pay-TV operators in Brazil. This broadcast is the first to bring display resolution at four times that of traditional High Definition (HD) displays of 1080p60.

The broadcast used the 10-bit International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-R Recommendation BT.2020 color standard. Broadcom’s video decoder System on a Chip (SoC) with High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) compression conducted the decoding. Elemental powered the video encoding and Globosat provided the satellite uplink and signal reception systems.
