[Via Satellite 06-06-2014] Airbus Defence and Space shipped its 1,000th XChange communications system since its introduction to the market in the summer of 2011. XChange is designed for voice and Internet Protocol (IP) communications between ship and office, and the system is a core component of Airbus’ Pharostar Very-Small-Aperture-Terminal (VSAT) services.
Airbus released a third version of XChange this spring, offering higher efficiency on-board connectivity and reduced operational costs. This version also allows the crew to access Wi-Fi through the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) function, so that crew members can make calls, send messages and access the Internet via their own smart devices.
