[Via Satellite 05-14-2014] Avanti Communications has partnered with the British Department for International Development (DFID) to deliver education programs to 60,000 students in Kenya, a large portion of these students being girls. The program has been funded $15.9 million by the DFID through its Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC) initiative. Educational services will be powered by satellite broadband through Avanti’s Hylas 2 satellite, which provides coverage to all of Kenya.

“DFID’s Girls’ Education Challenge will help up to a million of the world’s poorest girls improve their lives through education and to find better ways of getting girls in school and ensuring they receive a quality of education to transform their future,” said David Williams, chief executive at Avanti Communications.
