[Satellite TODAY 02-26-13] Gilat Satcom has announced a new deal with a pan-African Internet service provider and mobile WiMAX carrier to deliver broadband services throughout Mozambique. Additionally, Gilat Satcom is extending its connectivity services to high-capacity fiber optics, expecting this to be a future growth engine for the company.
“As part-owner in WIOCC, the owners of the EASSy undersea cable, we are able to add high-speed fiber to our menu of broadband services throughout sub-Sahara Africa,” said Alex Petropouliadis, Gilat Satcom’s vice president of sales for Africa.
The agreement calls for the company to provide two STM-1s of bandwidth in order to deliver IP transit from London to Mozambique, connecting the country to Tier 1 ISPs. Gilat Satcom will use the WiMAX network to extend the bandwidth throughout government offices, businesses and individuals in Mozambique.
