[Satellite TODAY 12-11-12] The Gazprom-owned Yamal-402 satellite eventually reached orbit early Tuesday after its course was corrected by space officials, The Moscow Times announced Dec. 11.

According to the news report, Yamal-402 initially failed to reach its designated orbit after its Russian-made Briz-M booster block failed. The satellite’s manufacturer Thales Alenia Space supervised as it maneuvered into the correct position. Experts reported that the Yamal-402 service life will be shortened, as the satellite will have burned through some of its fuel supply in the re-positioning.
Gazprom space subsidiary Gazprom Space Systems designed the satellite to provide broadcasting to customers in Russia, Western and Central Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
