[Satellite TODAY 10-25-12] Taiwanese digital set-top box (STB) developer ALi Corp. has entered into an agreement with content protection and value-added service technology company Kudelski Group to acquire its Abilis Systems Sàrl subsidiary, Kudelski confirmed Oct. 25.
Abilis is a fabless semiconductor company that provides RF modulators, secure media processors and broadcast-to-IP solutions from its headquarters based in Geneva, Switzerland.
ALi and Kudelski said both parties also have established a security framework whereby ALi will actively support Kudelski in protecting its pay-TV content across the set-top box value chain. The companies agreed to collaborate on the integration of Nagra On-Chip Security (NOCS) onto ALi’s lines of chipsets for set-top boxes and pay-TV operator modules.
ALi management added that the set-top boxes powered with ALi chips and embedded with NOCS would be available to operators in 2013. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
