[Satellite TODAY 10-01-12] Arianespace successfully launched its 51st Ariane 5 launch in a row, placing both the Astra 2F and GSAT-10 telecommunications satellites into orbit, the launch services provider announced Sept. 28.

An Ariane 5 ECA rocket that was launched from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, carried out the mission.
Astra 2F is the 36th satellite from operator SES to use an Ariane launcher. The satellite was built by Astrium using a Eurostar E3000 platform and fitted with active Ku- and Ka-band transponders. Astra 2F will be positioned at the 28.2 degrees East orbital slot to deliver new-generation DTH TV broadcast services to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The GSAT-10 satellite was designed, assembled and integrated for the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The spacecraft, fitted with 18 C-band and 12 Ku-band transponders, will be positioned at the 83 degrees East orbital slot to provide DTH broadcasting, weather and radio-navigation services for the entire Indian sub-continent.
