Video delivery infrastructure developer Harmonic has unveiled 4:2:2 decoding capabilities for its ProView 7100 integrated receiver-decoder (IRD), transcoder and stream processor, the company announced Sept. 5.
The IRD’s SD and HD decoder aim to support 4:2:2 compressed video streams in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC 8/10-bit formats and enable content and service providers to deliver professional video quality required for contribution applications. The enhanced ProView 7100 also allows content providers to decode SD and HD content presented as either MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC compressed streams with improved picture fidelity at lower costs.
“Video content goes through multiple compression stages before being distributed to viewers, making it essential to preserve high video quality within the contribution stages of a broadcast workflow,” Harmonic Senior Vice President of Video Products Krish Padmanabhan said in a statement. “Using Harmonic’s ProView 7100 4:2:2 decoder with 10-bit precision for MPEG-4 AVC transport streams, service providers maintain the color fidelity of video content when performing subsequent post-production processes such as chroma keying.”
