[Satellite TODAY 06-04-12] Sea Launch has successfully placed the Intelsat 19 satellite into orbit from its oceanic platform on the Equator, FSS operator Intelsat confirmed June 1.
The Sea Launch Zenit rocket took off from the Pacific Ocean platform Odyssey late Thursday night. The launch required a series of engine firings more than an hour before the satellite separated from the rocket’s upper stage.
The Intelsat 19 satellite was designed by Space Systems/Loral to serve Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S. West Coast with satellite communications.
