[Satellite TODAY 05-11-12] Satellite manufacturer Thales Alenia Space and its subsidiary in Spain have won two subcontracts to provide telemetry, tracking and control, and radio frequency equipment for two commercial satellites that are being built by Lockheed Martin and Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), Thales announced May 10.

Thales Alenia España’s equipment will be used for NewSat’s all-Ka-band Jabiru-1 satellite and the newly contracted Star One C4 satellite for Brazil’s Star One satellite fleet operator. The contracts have a combined value of approximately 4 million euros ($5.2 million).
Thales said the two deals bring it’s Spanish subsidiary’s total workload with U.S.-built satellites to 10 projects with a combined value of 20 million euros ($25.9 million), making it Spain’s largest space product exporter to the United States.
“We are very satisfied with our competitive position in export markets, particularly the highly demanding U.S. market,” Thales Alenia España CEO Juan Garces de Marcilla said in a statement.
