The new VSAT product aims to provide operators with flexibility to implement both SCPC and TDMA technologies in their networks from one single platform rather than have to choose between the two technology paths.

   Gilat’s SkyEdge 2 Accent is optimized for high-capacity 3G and 4G LTE cellular backhauling, point-of-presence, video contribution, high-speed disaster recovery services and multimedia applications. The VSAT’s high-performance SCPC mode can deliver high throughput of up to 12Mbps in return channels, increasing to 24Mbps in future releases.

   Gilat also said it has signed its first customer for the Accent VSAT. Satellite service company IOSAT Ltd. will use the VSAT unit to provide satellite broadband data services to small- and medium-sized businesses.

   The Accent will be showcased for the first time at the SATELLITE 2012 conference opening March 12 in Washington, D.C.
