[Satellite TODAY 03-01-12] Canadian space and satellite company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) reported a strong 2011 fiscal full year with double-digit growth in operational revenue and earnings, according to its latest financial results issued Feb. 29.
MDA’s 2011 full-year revenues from continuing operations were $761 million — an 11 percent jump from its $688 million mark in 2010. The company’s operational earnings, or adjusted net earnings, increased 17 percent from last year’s $100 million to $117 million in 2011.
MDA produced solid full-year fiscal gains despite a shaky 2011 fourth quarter, during which its net income fell from $37.1 million in the same quarter last year to $6.3 million in the latest quarter. Net earnings from continuing operations were $3.31 per share compared with $1.45 per share in 2010. In October, the company repurchased 9.43 million of its common shares, or 22.9 percent of its shares, and cancelled them at a price of $53 per share.
“We are pleased to announce that we have increased our cash dividend by $0.30 per common share, raising the annualized dividend to $1.30 per common share. A semi-annual dividend of $0.65 per common share is payable on March 30, 2012, to common shareholders of record at the close of business on March 15, 2012,” MDA CEO Daniel Friedmann said in a statement.
