[Satellite TODAY 02-02-12] SES has signed a new capacity and uplink agreement with Luxembourg-based satellite television provider M7 Group, which will use capacity on SES’ Astra satellite at the 19.2 degrees East orbital position, the operator announced Feb. 1.
M7 Group will use the newly contracted capacity for the direct-to-home (DTH) distribution of French-language HD channels for the Belgian market. M7 Group currently utilizes four transponders on the Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees East and eight transponders on Astra’s 23.5 degrees East spacecraft.
“With the rapidly increasing sales of HD screens, broadcasting in HD is becoming a must in a highly competitive market like Belgium. We are therefore very pleased with the addition of the new HD channels on Astra 19.2 degrees East, since this will greatly improve our proposition for satellite viewers in French-speaking Belgium,” M7 Group COO Hans Troelstra said in a statement.
