[Satellite TODAY 12-21-11] Operator SES has rolled out an enhanced version of its satellite-based broadband service Astra2Connect to its end-users in Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland. The service is now able to provide download speeds of up to 10 Mbps, SES announced Dec. 20.
The upgraded service launch follows recent agreements with two of the operator’s long-standing Astra2Connect partners. Both German Internet service provider Filiago and U.K.-based distribution partner BeyonDSL will distribute the service to consumers.
Astra2Connect service is available via the orbital positions at 23.5 degrees East and 28.2 degrees East. SES recently added the Astra 1N satellite to the 28.2 degrees East slot to provide additional capacity for the service.
“The agreements with Filiago and BeyonDSL represent a major step forward. They will enhance the user experience and further increase the competitiveness of Astra2Connect. With increased download speeds of up to 10Mbps, we will further grow our user base. We also plan to expand the service into other European markets to improve Internet access for everyone,” SES CCO Ferdinand Kayser said in a statement.
