[Satellite TODAY 11-08-11] Hughes Network Systems has been awarded a contract to provide its HX System satellite communications service for an unnamed airborne solution to be utilized by a U.S. government agency for in-flight intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), the broadband satellite company announced Nov. 7.

   The satellite communication offering will include capabilities in the solution’s air segment, ground segment and network management services.

   “Our HX System is ideal for airborne systems as it has the capability to transfer video, audio and data in real-time. The HX System offers the most bandwidth efficient airborne solutions in the marketplace, providing our ISR customers significant savings in their operational requirements,” Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division Vice President and General Manager Rick Lober said in a statement.

   Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
