[Satellite TODAY 09-13-11] Integrated network operator LightSquared signed a multi-year wholesale agreement with VoX Communications, a wholesale and retail VoIP services provider for consumers and businesses, the companies announced Sept. 12.
VoX will launch new mobile services and applications, including voice and video, on LightSquared’s network. The company said the deal culminates its strategy to add mobile functionality to its existing IP network platform and offer high-speed data and satellite services to its existing and new customers.
VoX said the reason it chose to partner with LightSquared was the opportunity to leverage a combination of wholesale economics, an open platform, a 4G-LTE network and a growing device ecosystem.
“We’ve been closely following the rapid increase in mobile VoIP users, and determining how our company could take advantage of this new reality. We believe that the LightSquared network and business model are creating a transformative moment for the industry, and will allow us to expand our portfolio so we can deliver a broad range of affordable and innovative mobile services to our customers,” VoX President and CIO Mark Richards said in a statement.
