[Satellite TODAY 08-30-11] Mobile satellite communications provider Thuraya has entered into a partnership agreement with SRT Wireless, a U.S.-based technology solutions provider, to deliver a state-of-the-art Software Defined Radio (SDR) Internet Protocol (IP) module, the companies announced Aug. 29.
Thuraya said the IP module technology aims to provide an open platform for developers, enabling easier integration and product development. Developed and manufactured by SRT Wireless, the IP module enhances the capabilities of Thuraya’s data products in both the land and maritime sectors.
The SRT Wireless IP module design features added functionality, including voice, GmPRS/SMS/Fax, integrated GPS and an OEM programmable host controller with Linux SDK package, which will significantly shortens development time by allowing developers to write applications directly to the module.
“We believe this market sector will continue to grow exponentially, and we need to continually innovate to stay ahead. By providing a cutting-edge, open platform for developers, we‘re encouraging innovation and creating real partnerships which will be key to our partners’ and Thuraya’s future,” Thuraya Product Manager Rashid Baba said in a statement.
