[Satellite TODAY 08-26-11] Private Iraqi telecommunications provider Asiacell is rolling out mobile, satellite backhaul-supported voice, broadband and SMS services across remote communities in Iraq via the Altobridge Lite-Site solution, the company announced Aug. 25.
The solar-powered Altobridge Lite-Site aims to enable mobile network operators to bring mobile connectivity to remote communities. The solution is currently being deployed in previously unconnected communities in Northern Iraq.
In a statement, Asiacell CEO Diar Ahmed said that Lite-Site would help optimize its customers’ budgets, minimize backhaul and accelerate the company’s plans to expand its nationwide coverage in Iraq.
“For over a decade, Asiacell has been pioneering the provision of products and services that enhance the quality of life and business for Iraqis,” said Ahmed. “We are the first telecom company to provide coverage for all 18 provinces, and to supply mobile voice, broadband and SMS services to remote communities that are not traditionally associated with revenue generating potential.”
