[Satellite TODAY 08-15-11] Globalstar Europe Satellite Services has signed an authorized distribution agreement with Italian satellite communications services provider Sailornet, parent company Globalstar announced Aug. 12.

   Sailornet will act as Italy’s national distributor for Globalstar’s suite of duplex products for the defense, government and maritime sectors through its existing re-seller channel. Sailornet will sell services supported by the six new second-generation satellites Globalstar launched in July. Globalstar is planning to conduct two additional launches of six satellites per launch before the end of the year.

   “By signing this agreement, we will extend our collaboration with Globalstar and strengthen the role of Sailornet’s offering of assistance and security at sea. We are now in a position to enrich our product offering with a full range of satellite voice and data simplex services,” Sailornet Managing Director Giuseppe Nicotra said in a statement.
