[Satellite TODAY 08-10-11] Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems has completed a key compatibility test of its UHF hosted payload with the company’s 702MP-model IS-22 satellite, which is being built for FSS operator Intelsat, Boeing announced Aug. 9.
The Passive Intermodulation (PIM) test was completed in less than one day in June. According to Boeing engineers, the test usually takes a week or longer, but the satellite’s design approach and proactive risk-reduction plan helped expedite the process.
“The successful PIM test indicates that Intelsat IS-22 will have superior on-orbit performance. Completing the test in such a short time, with no issues, demonstrates the viability of hosted payloads and of commercial deployment of a government-required system. It also means that our development program continues to meet or beat our schedule, something that’s a noteworthy achievement with a new satellite design,” Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems Vice President Craig Cooning said in a statement.
