[Satellite TODAY 04-05-11] Iridium Communications has launched its OpenPort global service program for broadband maritime satellite customers, the operator announced April 4.
    The OpenPort program aims to enable Iridium’s customer service team to dispatch 24/7 shipboard technical support to more than 50 ports around the world. Iridium is providing a five-year standard warranty for all new and existing Iridium OpenPort units under the program.
    Separately, Iridium announced that Netherlands-based Imtech Marine became the first service partner to take up the program after the two companies signed an agreement in March. Imtech Marine’s member station Radio Holland will manage the program’s three regional service centers and technical support.
