[Satellite TODAY Insider 03-17-11] Axesat has leased two transponders aboard SES World Skies’ AMC-4 satellite to provide business voice, data and Internet access services to companies in Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean, SES World Skies announced March 16.
SES moved AMC-4 spacecraft to 67 degrees West in September as part of an agreement with the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) to deliver high power Ku-band capacity to the Andean region.
“This new capacity is enabling the immediate expansion of many voice, data, Internet and video networks in the Andean countries, Central America, México and the Caribbean. Our strategic alliance with the Andean Community of Nations has opened the door to exciting new opportunities like this important new capacity agreement with Axesat,” SES World Skies’ Vice President of Latin America and the Caribbean Dolores Martos said in a statement.
Separately, SES World Skies announced that Stallion secured a full transponder of bandwidth on SES’ AMC-9 satellite to provide oil and gas companies with voice and data services over Stallion’s StarComm VSAT network.
The three-year capacity agreement will see Stallion link real-time oil drilling data and phone traffic to customer corporate networks through Stallion’s iDirect Evolution hub hosted at SES’ gateway in Woodbine, Md.
“By using the StarComm Network, workers at land-based and offshore oil rigs from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico can collaborate with colleagues across the country and around the world. We provide corporate network-level connectivity, complete with four-digit dialing and high-speed Internet and corporate intranet access over SES’ satellite infrastructure,” Stallion Oilfield Services Director of Technology Pedro Buhigas said in a statement.
