[Satellite TODAY 03-15-11] Intelsat entered into a strategic alliance with media fiber specialist BT to expand the reach of the IntelsatOne terrestrial network to Europe, Africa and Asia, the operator announced March 14.
The alliance will see both companies develop and market managed media solutions with global terrestrial and satellite reach that operate across two complementary media networks. Intelsat’s MPLS-based IntelsatOne fiber network and teleports will interconnect with BT’s MPLS-based Global Media Network (GMN) in New York and London. The deal also enables BT to take advantage of IntelsatOne gateways in North America and add Intelsat teleport and satellite offerings to its GMN solutions, Intelsat Vice President Tim Jackson said in a statement.
“This agreement is another strategic development designed to enhance our global delivery infrastructure offered by IntelsatOne. We pick up the content where it makes the most sense for the customer and deliver it where it needs to be delivered via the right combination of satellite and terrestrial links. The alliance expands our ability to deliver a wider range of services and offer optimal flexibility, reliability and cost efficiency,” said Jackson.
