[Satellite TODAY 02-09-11] ASBU, Arabsat and Newtec are offering extended services and products for fast newsgathering (FNG) and HD TV contribution and exchange on the Multimedia Exchange Network Over Satellite (MENOS) platform for existing and new customers throughout the MENA region, the partners announced Feb. 8.
    The MENOS FNG platform uses MPEG-4 AVC encoding for HD TV, as well as DVB-S2 and MPEG-4 AVC SD standards to ensure improved bit rates over the long-term for broadcasters.
    “The new services, combining the latest in compression and satcom equipment technologies, demonstrate the commitment of all MENOS stakeholders to invest and evolve. It’s a fast-moving business, and there is only one direction – forward,” Newtec’s MENOS Product Line Director Xavier Orri said in a statement.
