Halawi Takes Over for Thuraya CEO Al Sayed

[Satellite TODAY 02-02-11] Thuraya appointed Samer Halawi CEO, replacing Yousef Al Sayed, who has returned to work for Etisalat in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thuraya announced Feb. 1.
    Halawi previously help management positions at international telecom and satellite firms across the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.
    Al Sayed, who had been with Thuraya since its inception in 1997, led the company through the launch of Thuraya-1, -2 and -3 in 2000, 2003 and 2008, respectively. He led efforts to launch a variety of voice, data, and video solutions for the maritime, lan, and aero sectors, targeting government customers, vertical industries and horizontal markets across its coverage area.
