[Satellite TODAY 12-01-10] Polish DTH operator N will launch what it claims to be Poland’s first regular 3-D TV service, nShow 3D, the company announced Nov. 29
The new 3-D service begins Dec. 4 with special live coverage of European Boxing Union heavyweight matches. The nShow 3D service lineup will feature a regular mix of 3-D programming available to all N platform subscribers directly via their set-top boxes and without an additional fee until the end of 2011.
N, owned by a subsidiary of TVN Group, has anbout 740,000 subscribers. TVN CEO Markus Tellenbach told Satellite TODAY that he has high hopes for 3-D TV in the health Polish market. “We are not at a point where this can be seen as a general driver on the satellite side. But, when you look at it from an events perspective, it is a unique experience and over time, 3-D will be an important element in the mix. Right now, I don’t think 3-D is going to become a broad recipe for all content. There is certainly strong interest in sports and events that 3-D can enjoy huge popularity. It is also a huge driver in terms of cinema and theatre in this country. 3-D is a key issue.”
