[Satellite TODAY 11-08-10] Pace has acquired Latens Systems, a content security software and middleware company, for about 29 million British pounds ($46.9 million), Pace announced Nov. 4.
The acquisition will see set-top box market specialist Pace inherit Latens’ content security solutions to create an overall package offering for different types of pay-TV operators.
In a recent interview with Satellite TODAY, Latens CEO Jeremy Thorp said the landscape for content security was in a period of significant change. “On the satellite landscape, you will see more greenfield operators, and possibly one more established operator will have started to try our technology. The market is in a major state of change, and quite often when you into this change, you don’t necessarily realize what is happening. I believe we are near that stage. We are starting to see the big players switch to this technology. I think when we look back at four years time, this will be the time which will be seen as the tipping point for cardless technology. It will be looked at the time where operators revisited their thinking in terms of content security.”
