[Satellite TODAY 11-03-10] Australian pay-TV operator Foxtel signed deals with several Hollywood Studios to bring movies to Foxtel subscribers in a similar timeframe with DVD releases, the operator announced Nov. 2.
Starting this week, selected titles on Foxtel’s existing PPV movie service and its new broadband-connected Foxtel On Demand Internet television service will be released within the DVD window timeframe.
“The enhanced agreements with Hollywood studios further cement Foxtel as the number one entertainment provider in Australia, as we will now have blockbuster movies available to our subscribers the same day as DVD release. We are also working towards screening the first new release 3-D video-on-demand movie for Foxtel iQ2 subscribers early in the New Year,” Foxtel’s Executive Director of Product and Sales Patrick Delany said.
Foxtel had more than 1.5 million DTH subscribers in Australia at the end of June, growing its subscriber base by about 3 percent compared to the same stage last year.
