The Bangladeshi government is planning to launch its own satellite to improve national broadcast information and communication technology, according to a government statement released Sept. 15.
The satellite, projected to cost between $200 and $300 million, aims to upgrade Bangladesh’s broadcasting facilities to international standards.
An inter-ministerial committee approved the satellite project after it held a meeting to determine various technical aspects in launching the satellite, possible costs and implementation. The Bangladesh government also will form a separate national expert committee for quick implementation of the project.
Contracts have not been issued to build or launch the satellite, but would be announced soon, government officials said.
