[Satellite TODAY 07-27-10] Sea Launch has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of EchoStar Satellite Services to launch up to three satellites on the Sea Launch system, the company announced July 23.
Sea Launch will launch the satellites on Zenit-3SL rockets from its equatorial launch site in the Pacific Ocean. Dates for the launches have not been scheduled and financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
“EchoStar is pleased to have completed successful launches with Sea Launch in the past, which give us confidence in Sea Launch’s ability to execute on future launches. The Sea Launch Zenit-3SL vehicle has been a reliable, flight-proven launch system and we look forward to continued success,” EchoStar President Dean Olmstead said in a statement.
On May 10, Sea Launch filed to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy status in the third quarter of 2010. The company anticipates court confirmation of its reorganization plan at a hearing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, scheduled for July 27.
