[Satellite TODAY 05-20-10] Boeing has completed the on-orbit handover of the DirecTV 12 satellite to DirecTV, the satellite manufacturer announced May 19.
DirecTV 12, launched in December, will be monitored and controlled for DirecTV by Intelsat.
DirecTV will use the Boeing 702HP satellite to provide HDTV broadcasting to local and national markets throughout the United States. The satellite is equipped with 90 active and 24 spare Ka-band transponders, two Ka-band reflectors and nine smaller Ka-band reflectors.
