Sky Deutschland to Enhance HD Offering Through DVR Partnerships

[Satellite TODAY 05-05-10] Sky Deutschland signed technology development deals with Pace and NDS in efforts to add HD digital video recorder (DVR) services to Sky Deutschland’s platform and manage content, Sky Deutschland announced May 4.
NDS will provide its XTV secure integrated technology to power the Sky+ HD DVR service. Pace will develop a new HD unit for Sky Deutschland to support both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding and provide Sky with full flexibility over the management of its HD and SD service.
Financial details of the contracts were not disclosed.
Separately, Pace Networks announced it signed partnership deal with United Arab Emirates-based Kromtek to rollout its MultiDweller distribution platform for Kromtek’s pay-TV customers in India. The partnership aims to open up pay-TV and other entertainment services as the sub-continent moves from analog to digital. Kromtek will also target hotels in Dubai.
“MultiDweller represents a perfect solution for many parts of India where the widespread use of older head-ends and legacy wiring means large swathes of the population cannot access premium entertainment services,” Kromtek Director Jose Joseph said in a statement.
