[Satellite TODAY 02-01-10] Gilat Satellite Networks’ Bandwidth Optimizer solution (BWO) has been deployed at hub sites in Asia, the company announced Jan. 28.
Gilat’s BWO solution implements echo cancellation at the hub site in order to enable outbound and inbound signals to share the same bandwidth. The solution aims to produce satellite bandwidth savings of 20 percent to 50 percent and also allows service providers to increase their number of installed VSATs in order to expand customer bases.
“The deployment of the new BWO solution has saved 5 [megahertz] of satellite bandwidth for one of our customers in Asia, translating into cost savings of approximately $200,000 per year,” the company said in a statement.
