Report: Apple, CBS, Walt Disney Web Partnership May Threaten Cable, Satellite Providers
[Satellite TODAY 12-30-09] CBS and Walt Disney are considering a deal with Apple to join forces in order to create an iTunes subscription-based service for online video, The Wall Street Journal reported Dec. 22.
The move aims to challenge broadcast and satellite TV providers that also provide data services.
In a December report, Nielsen Co. said that competitors would be looking to compete with Comcast‘s pending merger with NBC Universal, which would create the biggest cable and Internet distributor in the United States.
The Comcast-NBC Universal merger, which must pass monopoly regulatory hurdles, would affect cable and satellite distributors’ plans to capitalize off of Web video services, according to the Nielsen report.
