[Satellite TODAY 12-15-09] Vizada Networks signed a deal to connect to Seacom’s undersea fiber-optic cable along the East Coast of Africa, Vizada announced Dec. 14.
Vizada said the cable is fully active and operational and will provide high-capacity bandwidth to better serve its corporate customers based out of Tanzania. The connection consists of the low-latency terrestrial fiber supported by a satellite network.
To support the connection, Vizada will expand its i-Direct hub in Dar es Salaam to accommodate regional communications traffic. By avoiding routing traffic back to Europe, customers should benefit from latency reduction of about 50 percent and improved voice quality and lower costs, Vizada said.
