[Satellite TODAY 11-18-09] Eutelsat’s W7 satellite is set to launch Nov. 23 on an International Launch Services (ILS) Proton rocket from the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center in Baikonur, ILS announced Nov. 17.
    This is the sixth ILS Proton launch of 2009.
    The W7 spacecraft, built by Thales Alenia Space, will be co-located with Eutelsat’s W4 satellite at 36 degrees East to double resources at one of the operator’s high-demand video neighborhoods. The satellite’s 70 Ku-band transponders are connected to fixed and steer-able beams, which will provide coverage oover Russia and sub-Saharan Africa for digital broadcasting services, including pay-TV, and add flexibility for growing markets in central Asia.
    W7 will also assume all traffic on Eutelsat’s 18-transponder SESAT 1 satellite, positioned at 36 degrees East, and will subsequently continue in commercial service at an alternative location.
