[Satellite TODAY 10-19-09] The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) declared Iridium Communications’ Nasdaq registration effective and ready for trading as of Oct. 16, Iridium announced.
The company, which completed its merger with GHL Acquisition Corp. Sept. 30, has registered about 14 million shares of common stock underlying warrants that were issued in its initial public offering. The stocks, priced at $11.50 per share, will be listed on the Nasdaq Global Market under the ticker symbol “IRDMZ.”
Separately, Iridium Communications announced that the U.S. Coast Guard has approved its CLS Thorium terminal for Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT). The type approval clears the way for CLS America, a subsidiary of CLS, to equip ships sailing under the U.S. flag with Iridium terminals to comply with the international LRIT carriage requirements.
“Iridium’s global service coverage includes all ocean areas, including the north and south polar regions. As the only LRIT communications service provider capable of satisfying the LRIT requirements for ships operating above 70 degrees north or below 70 degrees south latitude, Iridium-based terminals, such as the Thorium, provide reliable, critical information to and from ships at sea in compliance with LRIT regulations,” Greg Ewert, executive vice president of global distribution channels for Iridium, said in a statement.
