[Satellite TODAY 09-03-09] Comtech EF Data’s DVB-S2 CDM-710 broadcast satellite modems were selected as part of the digital broadcast infrastructure for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa by Sentech, a communication solutions and service provider based in South Africa, Comtech announced Sept. 1.
Sentech’s digital broadcasting infrastructure, assisted by the Comtech modems, will facilitate satellite-based communications between the event’s 10 stadium locations, where a total of 64 soccer matches will be held, and the International Broadcast Center in Johannesburg.
The Comtech DVB-S2 technology aims to enable the bandwidth efficient transmission of the tournament’s HDTV coverage to billions of viewers globally.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup runs from June 11 to July 11.
