[Satellite Today 07-16-09] Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has been selected to build the Telstar 14R satellite for Telesat, SS/L announced July 16.
Telstar 14R, based on SS/L’s 1300 bus will deliver Ku-band services to the Americas and the Atlantic Ocean region. The spacecraft is equipped with five antenna beams and 46 active transponders, of which 19 are able to provide reconfigurable on-orbit capacity. Telstar 14R will replace Telstar 14 at the 63 degrees West orbital location.
Telstar 14R is scheduled for launch in the second half of 2011 with a planned 15 year lifespan.
