[Satellite Today 07-02-09] Arianespace has launched TerreStar-1 into geostationary transfer orbit, TerreStar confirmed July 1.
Terrestar-1, the largest commercial satellite ever placed into orbit, was launched at 1:52 p.m. EST after passing storms delayed the launch for over an hour. The launch is Arianespace’s 31st successful launch in a row.
TerreStar-1, built by Space Systems/Loral, will be positioned at 111 degrees West, offering mobile communications services across the United States and Canada.
