[Satellite Today 05-04-09] Bell Canada is proposing a Freesat digital TV service to the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the company announced April 29.
Bell said believes the solution would save Canadian broadcasters millions of dollars in terms of constructing new digital infrastructure and that consumers would only be required to purchase a compatible satellite dish and digital receiver to acquire service.
“Our Freesa’ proposal addresses the needs of Canadian consumers who rely on over-the-air television channels. If Bell’s recommendations are accepted by the CRTC, then consumers would be able to receive a package of at least five digital TV channels without having to subscribe to Bell TV. For many consumers, that’s more channels than they can access today over the air,” Kevin Crull, president of Bell Residential Services, said in a statement.
