[Satellite Today 03-27-09] Paradise Datacom has released its Paired Carrier Multiple Access (PCMA)-70 bandwidth extender designed to provide satellite-based system operators with a way to increase transponder efficiency using technology developed by ViaSat, the company announced March 19.
    PCMA uses an adaptive, self-interference cancellation technique to allow transmit and receive carriers of a duplex link to be superimposed on to one another.
    The product is intended to cut down the transponder costs of Paradise Datacom’s customers. The degree of savings depends on a number of factors including satellite performance and link design as it relates to the transponder power and bandwidth required to accommodate the traffic.
    Separately, Paradise Datacom announced its new PD25 Evolution modem is available. The modem comes with an optional Sat-Abis optimizer, a dual-circuit board module that interfaces directly with Evolution or Quantum modem motherboards. The circuit board increases the number of interface ports on the modem’s rear panel to eight.
