[Satellite Today 03-26-09] International Launch Services (ILS) has signed a contract with Intelsat to launch the Intelsat 16 satellite on a Russian Proton rocket in the fourth quarter, ILS announced March 24.
Intelsat 16, built by Orbital Sciences, is expected to be delivered to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan late this fall. Once in orbit, the satellite will be placed at the 58 degrees West. Intelsat 16 will provide Ku-band capacity to support expanded services to direct-to-home customers in Latin America.
The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
