[Satellite Today 01-09-09] The Spanish government has authorized Abertis Telecom to acquire 5 percent of operator Hispasat from EADS/CASA, increasing Hispasat’s share
to 33.4 percent at a cost of $47.6 million, Spanish press officials reported Jan. 7.
Abertis was acquired in July from Spanish telecom EHE and BBVA Bank in July. Both are private shareholders of Hispasat.
Hispasat’s fleet is made up of three operational satellites — Hispasat 1C, Hispasat 1D and Amazonas 1.
