[Satellite Today 09-08-08] Inmarsat confirmed the deployment of the solar panels and large antenna reflector on its third Inmarsat-4 satellite, the company announced Sept. 8.
The deployment completes the final stage in preparing the satellite, which was launched in August, for its operational life. The satellite is stabilized and pointed at Earth and is undergoing final in-orbit tests before being moved to its operational position at 98° West.
Inmarsat-4 F3, built by EADS Astrium, will deliver mobile broadband services over the United States. The launch completes a $1.5 billion program by Inmarsat to boost its service offerings and provide Broadband Global Area Network coverage around the globe.
