[Satellite Today 08-13-08] Israeli satellite operator Spacecom plans to spend $157 million on its new Amos-5 satellite, the company announced.
    The operator signed a deal with Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) to manufacture and launch the satellite. The expected launch date is in 2010.
    “Amost-5 brings forth Spacecom’s vision to become a global satellite operator,” David Pollack, Spacecom president and CEO, said in a statement. “Paired with Amos-4, which will serve the Asian market starting 2012, and with Amos-2 and Amos-3, which now provide services to Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the U.S. East Coast, Amos-5 will further enhance Spacecom’s reach. ISS has a long history of leadership in satellite design and construction, and we are looking forward to expanding our relationship.”
