[11-30-07 – Satellite Today] MultiChoice, which offers direct-to-home services across Africa, announced Nov. 29 that it has passed the 2 million mark for subscribers in the region.
The majority of MultiChoice’s subscribers are in South Africa, where the provider has nearly 1.5 million customers.
The African pay-TV market has been heating up in 2007. Gateway Communications launched services in sub-Saharan Africa earlier this year as it looks to put the pressure on MultiChoice in markets outside of South Africa. Another DTH platform, HiTV is teaming up with Eutelsat to launch services in Nigeria.
