David Myers has been appointed President of UltiSat, which does business as Speedcast Government (SCG). The Board of Directors announced Friday that Myers will be the next CEO succeeding longtime CEO Moe Abutaleb. Under the transition plan, Myers’ appointment as president is effective Monday, Aug. 24. SCG plans for Myers to take over as around the beginning of 2021 after a transition of responsibilities, when Abutaleb will retire.

Myers comes to SCG from Peraton, where he served as president of the Communications sector, focused on advanced networks for defense, intelligence, and civil customers. He was previously president and CEO of Datapath.

Abutaleb has served as CEO since the founding of UltiSat in 2003, through its sale to Speedcast International in 2017. He guided the formation of a proxy company at that time, and then led the integration of Globecomm Systems after the acquisition in 2018.

Chairman of the Board, retired U.S. Army Major General Dave Bryan commented: “Moe has been our inspirational leader for almost two decades and he has done an absolutely superb job of leading and managing our company since our founding. Change can be challenging but our Board, after an extensive search, has selected the perfect successor in David Myers. David has a proven track record, deep sector experience and knowledge, and the leadership and management skills required to drive our company to continued success in the future.”

Speedcast is undergoing Chapter 11 restructuring process after filing for relief in April, but UltiSat and Globecomm Systems and associated entities with Speedcast’s government business were not included in the filing.
