Hispasat Renews and Expands Latin America Broadcast Capacity Agreement with RTVE

Spanish satellite operator Hispasat will broadcast Radiotelevisión Española (RTVE) channels in Latin America as the result of a new, multi-year contract renewal it secured with both the network and technology partner Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales (TSA).

This renewal also increases the amount of Hispasat capacity originally contracted for service to the area. Hispasat will now support RTVE’s new TVE Internacional HD channel, which, according to the operator, required greater bandwidth. These channels will be supported by Hispasat’s satellites in the 30 degrees West position.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Hispasat and TSA that has always been excellent,” Pere Vila, RTVE’s director for strategic technology and digital innovation said in a statement. “I’m happy to be able to continue relying on these important companies to distribute our channels in Latin America, especially among the broad implementation among end users located in Latin America. RTVE has also collaborated with Hispasat on numerous technological innovation projects to improve our services and user experience.”

Hispasat broadcasts numerous multimedia channels from the 30 degrees West position to approximately 10,000 TV headends and more than 50 million users in Latin America. The Hispasat 30W-1/1A satellite was the company’s first to broadcast transmissions to the South American continent in 1992.
